After a win against Burleson Centennial on Feb. 17, Varsity Basketball is set to compete in the playoffs.
“A major factor in this team making the playoffs is their chemistry and camaraderie,” Coach Matthew Workman said. “These guys enjoy spending time together and hanging out with each other. They are a true team and great teammates.”
The team had a regular season record of 27-5.
“Boys Basketball finished our regular season with a program sweep against Burleson Centennial,” Coach Taylor Johnson said. “Varsity remained ranked, in the State, Top 10 all
season-long.”
The team will be on the road at Paschal High School for the first round of the playoffs on Monday at 7 p.m.
“This is my first time on Varsity and in the playoffs,” sophomore Willy Bakonga said. “I hope to make it to state, defend the best ball handler on the court, and get a steal.”
With the win against Centennial, Workman earned his 100th career win.
“This was a huge accomplishment, and he got it done in only four seasons,” Johnson said. “It’s a testament to him and the kids we have had along the way.”
For the first round, Workman said goals are set.
“Our expectations in this playoff run are to continue to keep Timberview on notice
that we are one of the best teams,” Workman said. “We need to continue the legacy and go get a State Championship.”
The team also made it to the playoffs last year.
“Our biggest improvement this season was everyone buying into the culture and what is expected of them,” Workman said. “Every game we go play, we have a target on our back. Many programs want what we have. We did whatever was needed to get a victory.”
Johnson said he encourages the community to come out and support.
“We need help packing the stands,” Coach Johnson said. “We would love to see you there, and on the rest of this playoff run.”
