The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie was a riveting adventure that grossed $92 million in its first opening weekend. With a mix of action, humor, romance and a touch of tragedy, the movie is an emotional rollercoaster that is very similar to the comics.

In the new film, Andrew Garfield returns as Peter Parker to battle new villains including Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino and the newly introduced Green Goblin. Gwen Stacy, portrayed by Garfield’s real-life girlfriend Emma Stone, returns as Parker’s girlfriend in the movie.

Spiderman faces the challenges of balancing his personal life and his duties as protector of New York. In fear that he will lose Gwen, Parker pushes Gwen away and the two separate for the majority of the movie.

Meanwhile, Parker’s childhood bestfriend, Harry Osborn, returns to town to take over Oscorp Industries after his father dies. Unfortunately for Osborn, the $200 billion corporation is not the only thing he inherits. When Parker is faced with a choice to either help his bestfriend or protect him from what could happen, he decides that it is too dangerous for his friend.

When Electro is first captured, the movie gives us a glimpse of the Ravencroft Institute and Dr. Kafka’s character, which was portrayed by a man instead of a woman like in the comics.

At the ending, Osborn speaks to a hooded figure, which sets up the next Spiderman movie including the villainous Sinister Six.The scene gives a sneak-peek to other villains’ weapons, including the Falcon’s wings and Doctor Octopus’s tentacles.

Overall, the special effects and soundtrack worked really well together. Having seen the film twice, I would recommend seeing in it 3D especially for the scenes with Electro. However, be careful if you get motion sickness easily. Be sure to stay for the ending credits to see a special preview of another summer blockbuster.
