Although it was released back in 2012, The Fault in Our Stars has been on the New York Times Best Seller list for 62 weeks. With growing popularity, the Young Adult Fiction novel, by John Green, has been read by teens across the world. Translated into many different languages, it tells the story of two teenagers and the experiences they share.

The book starts off by introducing a 16-year old girl named Hazel Grace Lancaster. She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and metastasis in her lungs. She spends her time reading her favorite book, An Imperial Infliction, by Peter Van Houten, but is involuntarily taken to a cancer support group every week. There, she meets Augustus Waters, an osteosarcoma cancer survivor, who is an ex-basketball player amputee. They share an innocent night at Augustus’ house and grow closer to each other.

As their friendship develops, Hazel and Augustus exchange their favorite books and form a relationship. They bond over their love of books.

With Hazel in mind, Augustus plans a trip to meet Houten in Amsterdam with the help of “the Genies”, a fictional Make-a-Wish Foundation. They enjoy their time dining under lights, meeting Houten, and being together.

With adventure, romance, heartbreak and the egging of cars, the book is hard to put down. It is an enjoyable read for many. It captures the romantic essence of this teenage story with Hazel’s humor and realistic characters.

Another reason this book could still be on the best-seller list is that word of mouth about the movie has spread. Readers are excited to see the love of Hazel and Gus come to life on the big screen June 6. The movie will star Shailene Woodley, who is also in Divergent, as Hazel Grace, and Ansel Elgort as Augustus Waters. If you haven’t picked up this novel, do it now before the film releases.
