Number five is just necessary and appropriately titled for this day of romance, “Valentine’s Day” (2010). We watch as intertwining couples and singles go through the struggles of love on Valentine’s Day. Stars like Ashton Kutcher and Jennifer Garner come together to provide the perfect mix of comedy and romance for everyone to enjoy. Taylor Swift also gives a surprisingly sweet performance.

“Something Borrowed” from (2011) is based on a best selling book of the same name. It tests Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) and her best friend Darcy’s (Kate Hudson) friendship, after Rachel deals with locked away feelings that come to surface over her friend’s fiancé. Rachel struggles with deciding between who she feels is the love of her life or her friend of a lifetime. This is a great film to watch if you are experiencing a difficult love triangle. Will love or friendship prevail?

Ronnie Miller (Miley Cyrus) is angry and resentful toward her father who she feels abandon her, her mother and younger brother in “The Last Song” (2010). When she is forced to spend a summer with her father, she isn’t too happy about it. However, Ronnie discovers she can’t avoid her father or the handsome Will Blakelee (Liam Hemsworth) who literally keeps bumping into her. The summer she dreaded from the start becomes a chance to learn about herself, her family and a romance she didn’t expect. The Last Song isn’t just about romance but about all types of love.

In “Crazy, Stupid, Love” (2011), Cal Weaver’s (Steve Carell) life is turn upside down as his high school sweetheart (Julianne Moore) cheats on him and wants a divorce. Before he knows it, he’s moving into an apartment with his kids visiting on the weekends. In hopes of moving on, Cal meets wingman Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). Palmer opens Cal’s eyes to the new world before him from the expensive suits to the flirty women. Despite all the women, Cal’s heart seems to keep taking him back to the things he loves the most, his family. The movie surprises expectations and not only shows the undying love he has for his wife but for his children.

At the top of my list, and most every other female’s, is the classic romance of all time, another Nicholas Sparks movie, “The Notebook” (2004). The movie focuses on an old man reading a story of two young lovers to an elderly woman in a nursing home. The story follows the life of a traditional rich girl Allie (Rachel McAdams) who falls for the poor-spirited young man Noah (Ryan Gosling). The two spend an entire summer together, but Noah is quickly rejected by Allie’s family due to his lack of wealth. Allie is forced to move and go to college even though she is willing to give it all up for Noah. After seven years pass, Allie sees Noah’s photo in the local paper. What will she do? Follow what her parents have always wanted for her or what her heart demands. The Notebook is a more serious and emotional approach to heart aching romance. Be ready to cry.
