“I looked at it as a great opportunity, a great place with good students and an athletic program successful in all sports,” Coleman said. “Everybody I talked to about the school had great things to say.”
Coleman, who transferred from Skyline High School, has 14 years of experience in Dallas and Houston. He officially started on March 27.
“My first impression is that we have great kids,” Coleman said. “I’m excited to be here and have hit the ground running.”
Varsity, which made the playoffs but lost in the first round, finished with an overall record of 6-5 and a district record of 5-3, which placed the team third.
“I’m trying to build a culture of excellence in all sports,” Coleman said, “As far as (fan) expectations you will see a team that plays hard together and a football team that competes.”
The coach said he was grateful for the opportunity.
“I have a saying, ‘it just means more’ meaning it means more to be a coach at Timberview,” he said.
Coleman mentioned two key players he’s looking forward to coaching next year.
“Junior Napon Bamrung is a good leader and Caden Bates, our running back, is also one,” he said.
Bates said he is looking forward to playing his last season as a Wolf.
“It feels good to know that I have an important role in the team,” Bates said. “He (Coleman) is going to get us right and in check 100 percent. As long as everybody is putting in the work they need to, we will go deep in the playoffs.”
The team’s goal is to make it to state, Bamrung said.
“I really love the new change,” he said. “I feel like we have a real chance of making a deep playoff run and even competing for a state championship.”
