For their field trip, ROTC members were able to stay overnight in the Battleship Texas in LaPorte.

As a field trip, the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) spent the night in Battleship Texas on April 11, in LaPorte, Texas.

“This was our first time going to this particular ship,” Lieutenant Colonel Terry Webster said.

The vessel contained a lot of history, junior Paola Reynoso said.

“Walking into the ship was like stepping into the past because the ship was filled with information from World War I,” she said.

Webster said the trip was beneficial for the group.

“I believe the experience opened up a whole new door to career paths for the cadets,” he said.

The students had more freedom compared to past outings, Reynoso said.

“Unlike with our previous trips, I loved how we were able to travel throughout the ship without any areas closed to visitors,” she said.

Reynoso said the trip helped the cadets understand the circumstances the soldiers faced.

“I learned how difficult life was for the troops in that time since they lived on the dark ship and went almost three weeks without sunlight,” Reynoso said. “We really take things for granted.”
