After the bell rings, teacher Corey McNair is now able to put all his grades into Skyward with the push of a button by using GradeCam on his iPad.

“It helps teachers grade tests faster,” McNair said. “I don’t want to go without it.”

The school has recently purchased GradeCam online software, which includes an app, to help teachers grade more efficiently.

“It gives immediate feedback to the students and teachers,” History teacher Kimberly Helfenbein said. “It’s time saving and it works like a Scantron, except I don’t have to go and grade it.”

GradeCam also allows teachers to see how well students scored and review tests that may need changes.

“It’s quick and gives you data to help you fix tests so you can improve them based on the data,” McNair said.

Grading can be quickly done through the Elmo projector, though sophomore Mark Thomasson said the system has its’ flaws.

“It has a brightness issue sometimes, but you just have to turn on the lights or play with it,” he said.

Teachers can print out answer sheets from the website for their classes.

“Scantrons are expensive,” McNair said. “At certain times of the year, Scantrons became too rare, (but) with GradeCam, you don’t have to order any special forms.”

McNair said laminating the answer sheets could be used to save time and paper.

“Schools could potentially save even more money by just giving kids their own answer sheet,” he said. “So they can just keep it in the notebook for that class. Students scan it, wipe it off and move on.”

The system allows students to correct mistakes.

“It will ask you if you meant A or B and you can change the answer right there,” sophomore Brittany Taylor said.

The ability of this program to immediately enter grades into Skyward, can help students prepare for upcoming tests.

“I see my grades instantly and it helps me know what to study for,” Taylor said. “We get our test scores back faster and we can see it in Skyward.”
