As Stranger Things comes to an end, Netflix is releasing season five in three parts, which started with four dropping on Nov. 27, an additional three new episodes on Dec. 25 and the series finale on Dec. 31. The latest release broke Netflix records with 59.6 million views in the first five days.
The series has been in Netflix´s Top 10 since its debut on July 15, 2016. The question that everyone is wondering is, can the Duffer Brothers, who created, wrote, directed and produced the show, wrap things up in the best way possible?
After ending season four with a cliffhanger with the villain Vecna cracking through the Upside Down and into the Main World, the main crew of Robin, Steve, and Hopper try to make a plan to go into the Upside Down to kill Vecna. While Mike, Dustin, Will, and Lucas try to lay low after what happened with Eddie Munson suddenly going “missing.”
With the crew preparing to go into the Upside Down, they hope that this time they can finally end the horror within the city of Hawkins, while Vecna is kidnapping kids to open more gateways in. However, when he takes Holly (Mike and Nancy’s little sister), Eleven is forced to go after them. This leads to a surprising shock for the fans, revealing Eleven’s sister was put in a cage. The crew then makes a plan to predict who is the next to be kidnapped.
However, they come to an obstacle with the military catching on to what they assume is going on. But that doesn’t come to their favor when Vecna shows up, covering up the scar burns from Nancy, and taking the kids anyway. But not before Will unlocks powers by being linked with Vecna to protect his friends.
This show has numerous instances of how many people could die in the finale. For example, Steve has been predicted to die in season four, and since he hasn’t, fans have speculated that he could potentially die due to his need to help and save his friends and family. Another character that’s been predicted to die is Dustin, because since Eddie has passed, he has been grieving differently by being reckless.
I believe that this show will have an unexpected twist as we reach the conclusion, but there are still questions that need to be answered. Like, is Max going to wake up fine? What is the full origin of the Upside Down, and how was it created? Or what’s going to happen to the Upside Down if Vecna is defeated?
Season five truly seems special because all of the characters have grown up, and it feels bittersweet since season one, when all of the characters were so different. Now every character is confident and mature. The Duffer brothers did a spectacular job with how they developed the characters. If you’ve watched previous seasons and are a true fan, make sure to tune in for the finale of Stranger Things which will be in movie theaters and Netflix on New Year’s Eve. If you’ve never watched the show, now is the time to start with season one.
