October becomes the month of terror and films being pushed out to send shivers through the audiences. Watching scary movies has become more accessible than before due to streaming platforms.
The sequel to the hit ‘Beetlejuice,’ is a comedic fantasy horror movie produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and was released on Sept. 8. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice showcases the Deetz family of three generations returning home after a family tragedy. The story is centered around Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, and how she opens a portal to be able to see the past of others. Lydia, who returns for the second installment, helps maintain the mayhem to a minimum but it doesn’t take long until someone says Beetlejuice three times bringing the demon that can add onto the chaos spreading.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has already earned $402 million at the box office. There is a wide audience that has enjoyed the Beetlejuice universe through various forms like a broadway musical but a revival portrayed in the eyes of Tim burton himself brings the same element. It creates just enough nostalgia for the older audiences seeing the actors reprise their past roles.
Salem’s Lot has the same concept of uncovering life changing extremities as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but it contains a mythical character that is known around the Halloween season, a bloodsucking Vampire.
Salem’s Lot, based on the chilling novel from Stephen King, was released on Oct. 3, as an HBO Max original. Salem’s Lot has previously been made as a mini-series to follow the book’s plot through and through but the storyline follows an author and writer, Ben Mears, who returns to his hometown in hopes of finding inspiration for his next book but witnesses the image of his fellow townspeople being sought out by vampires. The trailer shows the plot remaining in its timeline set in the late 1970’s. Having the time set in the late 1970’s movie brings the true eerie element that Stephen King wanted to imagine in his book. The new vision for this film was to make vampires terrifying again.
If you prefer to watch a psychological horror, your best option would be Apartment 7A.
Released on Sept. 20, Apartment 7A was arguably the most anticipated horror movie of the year due to it being the prequel to the infamous ‘Rosemary’s Baby.’ This film is only available through streaming on Paramount Plus. Terry Gionoffrio is a young dreamer trying to find fame as a dancer but it all comes crashing down because of an injury. Another chance of fame comes knocking at her door when an older couple open their home in Bramford for her. Later on, it becomes apparent that some disturbances come into play leading to something evil lingering around her. Though it’s definitely not as well done as “Rosemary’s Baby,” it’s still great.
Having a variety of films to watch at hand in the comfort of your home with a throw blanket is the new way to hide from the halloween horrors.
