Ways to Get into the Holiday Spirit Early

Anh Trinh, Editor

Since the spooky season is over, now comes the winter holiday bombardment of icicle decorations, Santa Clauses and fairy lights. Once Nov. 1 passed, anything and everything Christmas related seemed to magically appear in all department stores overnight. Even though technically Thanksgiving is closer, who cares. It’s never too early to get into the holiday spirit, so here are a few ideas on how to do exactly that.

  • Listen to holiday tunes. Music can fill anybody up with warm and fuzzy feelings. Turn on the classics like Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” or newer renditions like Pentatonix’s “That’s Christmas to Me.”
  • Watch some Christmas movies. With “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” coming out today, get with the festivities and enjoy new versions of an age-old story. If you’re feeling nostalgic, turn on “Peanuts’ Christmas Special.”
  • Make steaming cups of hot chocolate or eggnog. As essential parts to the season, these hot beverages make perfect drinks for cold nights. The best part is if you don’t feel like making them, most stores sell them.
  • Decorate your house. Fetch some Christmas lights and grab your faux snowmen. Place them around your room and change your room’s whole mood. A mini Christmas tree with tiny bulbs can be a perfect finishing accent to any area.
  • Be charitable. Sign up to ring bells with the local Salvation Army. Help make some sandwiches or food at Mission Arlington or any local church. Anything you decide to do will let the less fortunate have as much fun celebrating the holidays as you and it’ll feel so good to lend a helping hand.
