Show Choir Performs at Amos Lee Concert

Show Choir, in coordination with Legacy and Lake Ridge’s, performed three routines at soul and folk artist Amos Lee’s concert on Dec. 3, at Mansfield ISD’s Center for the Performing Arts.

“I was confident about it,” senior Kelly Romano said. “It was a lot fun and it was really cool to perform with a successful artist.”

Show Choir’s captain Alexis Lopez, along with the captains from the other schools, were in charge of choreographing the shared routine.

“One of the most difficult parts was trying to learn so much stuff in such a short amount of time,” Lopez said. “It was really hard to learn choreography when there were 100 other kids with you and you only had three people helping.”

The individual performance that the school performed was “Fly.”

“’Fly’ is about overcoming any adversity you’ve ever faced in life,” Romano said. “It’s a nice and powerful song.”

The three show choirs practiced their shared routine “Get on Your Feet.”

“We only practiced (that) once,” Lopez said. “We’re learned it the day of the performance.”

Show Choir Director Josi Alexander said she wished the timing was better so they could have had more time to practice.

“Any opportunity you get to work with an artist is a good opportunity,” she said. “The idea sounded really good; I wish it would have been later in the year.”

Despite the short amount of time that the show choir was given to practice, Romano said that the performance was still excellent.

“We told a story when we danced and sung,” Romano said. “It was very theatrical. I’m hoping that it will let other schools and districts know that (we) have a good Show Choir. I want us to be known well.”
