With a score of 46 points, the Varsity Boys Powerlifting team placed first at the meet held here last Thursday.

“It was a good win,” Head Coach Ricardo Rendon said. “I was happy with every individual performance. It took the best from everyone for us to be victorious.”

Junior Kolby Williams said he felt confident competing at home.

“It felt great lifting at the place I work out every day,” Williams said. “I felt so relax being in the same environment as usual, my nerves were down so I was able to focus on winning.”

Williams placed first in the 198 lbs. weight class.

“I’m super proud of myself for getting this victory,” he said. “Having my friends and family there to witness one of my biggest accomplishments of the season was great.”

Although Junior Marquis Kiner didn’t place, he said he’ll work harder for the next meet.

“I didn’t win but I still did my best,” he said. “A personal record on every lift isn’t something to be angry with, I just need to do a little better.”

The team will compete at Cedar Hill High School on Saturday.

“The competition may be a little harder next week but I still see myself placing top three,” Kiner said. “I’ve been working really hard in the weight room, so I’m hoping it pays off at this big meet.”
