Based on a true story set in this state, “American Sniper” has broken box office records with $90.2 million in sales its first weekend out.

The movie is centered on Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) who, because of his highly accurate shooting, became known as a legend in the armed forces. The movie follows his journey not only through his career and four tours in the war, but also the difficulties he and his family face. We see his struggle in attempts to return to normal life after the war.

This is a must-see movie. Audiences will be captivated from the start when the viewer is initially dropped into an intense moment where the character has to make a controversial decision. Then at the height of the moment, the scene flashbacks to the start of Chris Kyle’s story. This automatically caught my attention and I knew I was in for a great two hours.

Now before you get the idea that this is just another pure action, guns and blood everywhere kind of movie, it isn’t. Throughout the film you get to see his wife Taya (Sienna Miller) try to cope with her journey as a military wife. Things were so well staged that I connected with each of the characters.

Throughout the drama of the film, the actors find light moments, giving not only themselves but also the audience some time to breathe and connect with the trueness of the story. I found myself laughing at moments when I was on the verge of crying. Overall, it was the perfect mix of drama, humor, action and even romance.

However, if you are sensitive to violence, you might want to take caution. This is a film that deals with war, and with war comes graphic scenes. I can be quite the sensitive person, and I found myself guilt of nearly cutting off circulation to my date’s hand a couple of times.

The movie ends with actual footage of the memorial service for Chris Kyle, which took place at the AT&T Stadium where the Cowboys play. It was beyond moving and a great way to end the film. Also, it was another reminder that Chris Kyle was a real person. He truly lived this life that we’re watching.

Even after the final footage was shown, the theatre remained completely silent. This was a touching film and absolutely worth the money.
