With a score of 59-24, the Varsity football team won their game against Richland at Newsom Stadium in Mansfield last Friday night, securing the district title.

“We got off to a slow start in the first quarter,” junior Demaury Moore said. “But we don’t have a problem with being down and getting back up again.”

Varsity is 9-0.

“It was cold and wet,” junior Cameron Bates said. “But it was a good week because we knew how to come together early in the game.”

With nine straight wins, the team is practicing for playoffs.

“It feels great to be district champs, but that’s not our ultimate goal,” Moore said. “We’re going to win state.”

The team faces Bryan Adams tonight in an away game at 7 p.m.

Bates said, “Because we got to play a good team like Richland before the playoffs happened, we know what to expect and we’re ready.”
