With a score of 64 to 31, the Varsity Football Team won against the Lake Ridge Eagles last Friday night at Newsom Stadium.

“We knew this win would be big for us,” senior Adam Cash said. “That whole week we were locked in and prepared to play the game that we knew we could.”

Despite losing against out of district teams in weeks one and two, Head Coach James Brown doesn’t consider this a turnaround for the team.

“Our main focus in non-district games is to prepare for district,” he said. “We always want to be a better team late in the year. (This win) means we are getting better. We need to continue to get better.”

This was the school’s first victory over Lake Ridge since 2016.

“It was a good win,” Cash said. “We knew we needed this again, but we can’t just sit around now, we still have to go out there and work.”

Junior Triston McDonald said that the team’s biggest strength throughout the game was its offense.

“After a slow start to this season, they really got rolling during the game,” he said. “We really didn’t have a bad quarter. We just made critical stops and kept our composure.”

The next game will be a home game against the Wilson Wildcats tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

“Since we know what we can do now, we’re a little more confident than we were,” Cash said. “It shows where we can be, but we still have a little bit to go and a couple of more things to do to get where we want to be.”
