Varsity Volleyball Wins Against Lancaster

With a score of 3-2, the Varsity Volleyball team defeated the Lancaster Tigers, last Tuesday, putting an end to a five-game losing streak.

“We didn’t take them seriously to begin with,” Coach Beth Wills said. “We just assumed we were going to win so when we lost those first two rounds we woke up and thought we are going to have to work harder to get the job done.”

The first two sets were won by the Tigers, 22-25 and 23-25.

“It was an intense game because at first we took the competition light,” junior Regan Williams said. “In the end we pulled through, all we needed was good energy and to talk to each other.”

The game continued on to all five sets which exceeded previous games.

“It was hard because we had to win the next three,” Williams said. “They had more energy than we did and played liked they wanted to win.”

The girls went on to win the game and secured their first victory in the 2017-2018 season.

“Going through five sets is tough because it’s like playing for two hours,” junior Jasmine Scarbrough said. “It’s hard because you have to make sure you play smart and stay under control.”

The team’s district score is 1-4.

“This victory is going to be a positive breakthrough for this season,” Scarbrough said. “We need to get on it to help us for these next games.”

Tonight the girls play against Midlothian in an away game at 5:30 p.m.

“Every match we play, we (have) to get a win,” Wills said. “We are trying to get better and more consistent (to) start winning some ballgames.”
