Excitement Builds for First Varsity Football Game

After last year’s loss in the first round of the playoffs, the team is gearing up for its first game of the new season.

“It was a tough loss,” Coach James Brown said. “We played very well at times but injuries and lack of experience hurt us in the end.”

The game will be against the Everman Bulldogs at their home stadium today, at 7:30 p.m.

“I’m excited to play,” junior Isiah Banuelos said. “It gives me a rush to know that I’m representing the football program. Over the summer, I’ve been running and lifting weights to get faster and stronger for when the season finally starts.”

Coach Byron McCollum has been coaching some of the boys since their 7th grade year, after transferring from a position at James Coble Middle School.

“It’s going to be great,” McCollum said. “It’s a joy to watch them grow up as young men and play this game.”
