Varsity Boys’ First Scrimmage

The Varsity Football team will play in their first scrimmage of the season against the Cedar Hill Longhorns tonight at R.L. Anderson Stadium.

“The players are really excited to finally get a chance to play against someone other than themselves,” Coach Robert Johnson said. “There’s a great buzz going around the school about the upcoming season.”

Last year, the team lost in the first round of the playoffs against Burleson Centennial.

“We can be a really good team this season,” Coach Guy Humes said. “If we’re able to stay healthy, I can see us making it back to playoffs.”

Last year, 16 seniors signed to college football programs.

“We have a lot of young guys stepping into Varsity roles,” Humes said. “We know they can play at this level physically but the mental challenge that a game brings is the true test.”

The team has made four straight playoff appearance.

“It’s an honor to have a chance to play another year on Varsity,” junior Teslim Abubaker said. “We have a really skilled offensive and great defensive.”

The Cedar Hill Longhorns lost in the UIL 6A Regional Championship game against the defending State Champion Desoto.

“It’s a great opportunity to play a team that has this level of talent,” Johnson said. “Scrimmaging them will help us a great deal in getting ready for the upcoming preseason.”

The game starts at 7:30 p.m.

“I’m excited for the guys to get a chance to have an opportunity to show what they have been working on all summer,” Johnson said. “The scrimmage should be interesting to watch.”
