Varsity Girls Powerlifting Team Finishes Second

The Varsity Girls Powerlifting team competed here at a meet, last Thursday and finished second, behind Wylie High School.

“I didn’t like lifting at the school for competition,” junior Arielle Artist said. “I felt all this extra pressure to win and it didn’t help my performance.”

The team has placed second at every meet.

“The girls have been doing a great job this season,” Head Coach Ricardo Rendon said. “They seem highly motivated to continue their streak at placing in the top three.”

Rendon said the girls are improving.

“I see the team getting back to form like how it used to be when the school first opened,” Rendon said. “I remember when we would go to meets back in 2008 and teams would be scared to face us.”

Individuals complete three different type of lifts.

“I’ve could’ve done better but I made some costly mistakes on squat and deadlift,” Artist said. “I’m hoping next week I go into the meet with a little more focus, this will help me out so I can place a little bit higher.”

Junior Sydni Allen placed first in 165 lbs. weight class.

“I’m really happy that I won,” Allen said. “Coach has been pushing me in practice every day to get better. The hard work has paid off.”

The team will compete at Cedar Hill on Friday.

“I’m looking forward to the next meet,” Allen said. “The team has a chance at placing first, so let sees how it goes.”
