After receiving numerous offers to play college basketball, senior Chennedy Carter signed her letter of intent to Texas A&M University today in the Varsity Gym.

“It’s been an amazing journey,” Shonda Perkins, Carter’s mom said. “It’s been long. It’s been stressful, but it’s been fulfilling. It’s a blessing to have Chennedy as my daughter. I’ve been blessed that I don’t have to pay for any college.”

The decision was between The University of Kansas and Texas A&M.

“I almost had a nervous breakdown because Chennedy changed her mind at the last minute yesterday and then again this morning,” Perkins said. “I told Chennedy to make the decision based on what she wants to do and she wants to stay close to home. It’s important for her to be close her parents.”

Carter said, her Aunt, Gina Perkins, is a strong influence in her life.

“After I go to A&M, I plan to just be a pro and follow in my aunt’s footsteps,” she said. “She plays for the Minnesota Links.”

Being in the WNBA is one of Carter’s biggest goals.

She said, “I just want to be number one, the best player in the metroplex, country, (and) universe.”
