With a score of 21-7, the Varsity Football team defeated the Everman Bulldogs last Thursday, at Newsom Stadium.

“The defense really helped us seal the win,” senior Zeke Kuyawa said. “All their forced turnovers really kept us in the game and gave the offense a chance to make plays.”

During half-time the score was 14-7

“We had an emotional game,” Coach Robert Johnson said. “The guys came out and fought for the win. I’m proud of the effort they left on the field.”

Last year, the team only won five games.

“We have a lot of motivation to prove that we are a better team from last year’s disappointing season,” junior Jyron Russell said. “The team has put a lot of work into the off-season and are ready to make an attempt at our ultimate goal, which is going to state.”

The team will play an away game against Frisco Lone Star on Friday.

“We had a good game but there are still some mistakes we need to correct,’” Johnson said. “We’re looking forward to this season and expecting big things from these returning upperclassmen, and, hopefully a deep playoff run.”
