Texting is one of the many building blocks of relationships today. No matter the age, using our quick-talking thumbs to develop our love lives seems to have become a universal thing. However, are we doing it right? Believe it or not, there are rules to texting.

The first thing that needs to be addressed is the expected “good morning” and “goodnight” texts. Regardless of how silly these may seem to some people, they are actually quite important. A good morning and goodnight can mean that you are the first and last thing on a person’s mind so, of course, it is natural to anxiously wait to receive them. However, when is the time to send them, and when is the time to expect to receive them?

Guys, put all disagreements aside, it is your job to text first! Start off the conversation with a sweet and simple good morning text, but be careful not to send it too late in the day. It can be quite a turn-off to think a guy just sleeps his day away.

Next, never double text. If your message isn’t answered the first time around, they’re probably only busy. Bombarding your crush with messages will definitely gain you some clingy marks and almost a guaranteed friend zone. Regardless of how it seems, we’re not always glued to our phones! Be patient, and let them get back to you when they can.

Another thing that can possibly be over done are the oh-so-lovely acronyms of our generation. It’s the “K” and the “fine” texts that immediately lead us to list every thing we could have possibly done wrong since the last message. Now, we are all guilty as charged when it comes to “k-ing” and it is never “just because”. If you’re mad at your crush, just let them know. Take the time to cool off if you’re not ready to tell them, and respond when you can.

And lastly, although it’s a great and popular way to communicate, texting isn’t everything. Once you start to get comfortable step your game up a bit and give those thumbs a break. Put your own twist on things, Face Time and phone calls are an additional, great way to get to know your special someone and strengthen your relationship.
