In order raise funds for Art Club, members are selling Valentine’s Day balloons during lunch on Feb. 3-13.

“It is an excellent opportunity for students and staff to purchase a small gift for friends, family and other loved ones,” senior Natalia Lizcano said. “It also helps support us and all the activities that we offer.”

Mylar balloons are $3 and latex balloons will be sold for $1.50.

“Buying a gift does not exactly entitle it to be given to a significant other,” Lizcano said. “There are a variety of balloons that can be shared with everyone and allow people to feel appreciated and acknowledged.”

The items are limited.

“After the balloons are sold out, we’re done,” senior Maria Medina said.

Sponsor Dallas Williams said she hopes this becomes a year-round business.

“Right now we’re just selling for Valentine’s Day, but we want another organization to make this an everyday thing,” she said. “Students and teachers would be able to purchase balloons for birthdays and much more.”

Williams said the tradition of selling balloons is still alive because of her efforts.

“I worked really hard to get this approved,” she said. “Ultimately, I would love for somebody who was not as busy as me to run the business; I just don’t want to see it die.”

Medina said balloons can be purchased for anyone.

“It’s not all about the romance,” she said. “You could get something for your best friend to show that you care about them.”
