The most wonderful time of year has come upon us yet again and what better way to enjoy the holiday break than to indulge in a handful of new movie releases.

Kicking off the break will be the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This will be the second Star Wars movie in two years following the sequel trilogy Star Wars: The Force Awakening. The movie will be the first of many in a new series titled: Star Wars Anthology Series. Make sure to catch this in theaters Dec. 16, as there is rumored to be a beloved Star Wars villain returning.

This next film is for video game lovers. If you are a fan of the time traveling assassin Desmond Miles, then brace yourself for the release of Assassins Creed. Fans of the game have been waiting years for this film which will feature Callum Lynch, the infamous Assassin’s Creed character. He travels through time with his fellow assassins to battle against the evil Templars. Look for this movie on Dec. 21.

Now for all you singing animal lovers, the movie Sing will be release on Dec. 20. This family friendly film features a plethora of animals, but the main protagonist is a koala bear named Buster Moon. He comes up with a plan to restore his theater back to its golden days by producing the greatest singing competition of all time. This will be a huge hit for kids but also those needing a laugh.

Besides Star Wars, the film Passengers will be a sure hit. Starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, the romantic space thriller is about two passengers aboard a spacecraft that awaken early from slumber to find out they have 90 years left before reaching their destination far away from Earth. As the two try to find a way to escape, they slowly fall in love with each other. This is set to release Dec. 21.

For all the Denzel Washington fans, the prolific actor is back at it with Pulitzer Prize winning-play Fences. Washington takes on the role of former Negro League player, now waste collector, Troy Maxson as he battles to handle his crazy personal life and a son aspiring to be a football player. The film, which releases Christmas Day, also stars How to Get Away with Murder star Viola Davis in a very different role. With all the hype this movie is getting, it should be a contender for Academy Awards
