Predictions of Grammy Award Winners

Paulina Zuleta, Staff Writer

It’s the time of year where we scream, often at the top of our lungs, at the TV for our favorite nominees. The annual 57th Grammy Awards will take place tonight, introducing many well-known artists and big hits. Here is a list of people who should win an award.

Record of The Year nominees: “Chandelier,” “Shake it Off,” “Fancy,” “Stay With Me” and “All About That Bass”

Even though some people believe that Swift’s new album is annoying, she has many dedicated fans and the Academy will recognize her ability to produce so many top tunes time after time. “Shake it Off” is the leading single in the “1989” album and is still a hype song to dance to. It also puts most people in a good mood.

Album of The Year nominees: “Morning Phase,” “X,” “In The Lonely Hour,” “Beyoncé” and “Girl”

Beyoncé is famous all around the world and produces good music. Her new album, called “Beyoncé,” was a big hit especially with everyone’s favorite, “Drunk in Love.” She has been nominated six times this year, including for Album of the Year, which just so happens to be one of the many awards she’ll win tonight.

Best New Artist nominees: Bastille, Brandy Clark, Haim, Iggy Azalea and Sam Smith

Iggy Azalea is a well-known artist in the rapping industry. She has been featured in many popular songs and has published an album of her own. However, there’s going to be a tough competition between her and soulful Sam Smith. Both artists are very talented but in different genres, so it all comes down to what type of music the Academy wants to recognize as best new artist.

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance nominees: “ Bang Bang,” “Fancy,” “A Sky Full Of Stars,” “Say Something” and “Dark Horse”

The most well-known hip-hop artists like Nicki Minaj are a part of “Bang Bang.” The tune poses a triple threat to all the other nominees. The voices blend well and the song is catchy. The single is currently number 28 on the “Billboard Hot 100 Chart.”

Best R&B Song nominees: “Drunk in Love,” “Good Kisser,” “New Flame,” “Options” and “The Worst”

Even though “Drunk in Love” is old, it’s going to win best song. People have made many Vine videos over the single, and it with it’s rhythmic beats was an instant hit. The fact that Beyoncé sung it with her husband gives the song extra points.

Best Rap/ Song Collaboration nominees: “Blak Majik,” “The Monster,” “Tuesday,” “Studio” and “Bound 2”

“Love The Way You Lie” was a big hit in 2010, in which both Eminem and Rihanna collaborated together. Eminem’s single “The Monster,” featuring Rihanna reminds me of how well their voices blend. The song is definitely better than the other nominees and winning the award will be well deserved for both of the talented artists.

Best Country Solo Performance nominees: “Give Me Back My Hometown,” “Invisible,” “Automatic” “Something in the Water” and “Cop Car”

Watching Carrie Underwood perform catches the attention of others. Her music is well-known and inspires audiences of all genres. “Something in the Water” is number one on “Top 20 Country Countdown.” She should blow her competition out of the way.

Be sure to switch your television tonight on CBS to catch the Grammy’s and see exclusive performances by everyone from Ed Sheeran to Madonna.
