As the holiday season slowly approaches, many people question what they want to do to get in the holiday spirit with their friends and family.
Decorator’s Warehouse, a known decor outlet in the DFW metroplex, has become one of the largest Christmas stores in the world making it a one-stop shop for holiday items. If you are a fan of browsing holiday aisles at the store, this is a walk-through experience, with over 20 different themed areas for an elegant or rustic Christmas.
Gaylord ICE features hand-carved themed ice sculptures. Each Gaylord hotel displays a different Christmas classic. The classic that has taken over this season in Grapevine is ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas.’ These attractions are showcased annually during the holiday season at the Gaylord hotels. Specialized sculpting artisans flown in from China work hand-in-hand with chemists to bring a 300-page blueprint book to life. Ranging from colorful ice to slides and tunnels, this 19,000-square-foot exhibit is truly a winter wonderland.
Prairie Lights is a one-of-a-kind drive-thru experience with two miles of four million gleaming lights located in Grand Prairie at Lynn Creek Park on Joe Pool Lake. They update the designs annually with hundreds of new displays of various shapes and sizes. There is a holiday village at the midway point of the two miles where you can leave your car, with holiday eats and sweets waiting for you accompanied by small carnival rides for the little ones. Upon entering Santa’s Shed, holiday vendors are ready to sell you many jolly goodies. Santa is available for photos until Dec. 23, but it comes at an additional cost. The best is saved for last which is the light tunnel, the perfect finale to wrap up your experience.
There is only one right way to glide into the holiday season and it’s by enjoying a day out ice skating. There are several places to do this including Stockyard’s Rodeo Rink spans over 4,000 square feet with beautiful streaming lights and live music, Ice Skate Galleria Dallas, which is open all year round, hosts the nation’s tallest indoor Christmas tree in the center of the rink allowing skaters to revolve around it but only during December. In Historic Downtown Grapevine, Peace Plaza Ice Rink opens the main station with hanging lights to add vibrant colors. Prices for these locations vary from $17 to $30.
Attending these events will make up your holiday experience. These can keep you occupied before Santa comes down your chimney.
