“Ouija Origin of Evil” Follows Predictable Plot

Known for his screen horror films like “Hush” and “Before I Wake,” Mike Flanagan recently released “Ouija the Origin of Evil,” on Oct. 21. At the end of this film, you will be scared to touch a Ouija board.

The movie takes place in 1965 in Los Angeles. A widow and her two daughters own a seance scam business, which ultimately brings evil into their home. The oldest daughter Lina Zander (Annalise Basso) gives the mother the idea about getting a Ouija board for their business after playing the game at a friend’s house. The youngest daughter, Dori Zander (Lulu Wilson), wants to connect with their deceased father through the Ouija board.

At this point, the mother, Alice Zander (Elizabeth Reaser), and Dori agree to connect with the dead father, but Annalise hesitates to because her impression of the whole thing was unbelievable. But she finally decides to join hands with her mother and sister to see if she could actually hear him. Once they connect, there are three rules: “Greet the board, never play alone and always say goodbye.” In the movie, saying goodbye always gets forgotten, which is where all the spirits are welcomed.

In addition, the younger sister plays by herself to talk to her father, unaware of the consequences which includes opening a door for a demon to come into their home. This makes everyone in the theater grip their popcorn bag even harder knowing what might come up next.

The movie doesn’t end with happily ever after. It ends with one of the characters retelling the story.

Due to the fact that the film took place in the 60s, before technology was used widespread, the movie gIves off a creepy tone. The main elements of the film were essentially the board, the spirits and the characters. This made me pay more attention to the plot because of the minimal details. The movie really foreshadowed what was going to happen after playing with the Ouija board since the rules of the board were very distinct. Viewers can expect is going to happen next.

If you are searching for a jump-scare, horror movie, this film is for you. If you are interested in the outcome of playing the Ouija board, you should take precaution and watch the movie before doing so.
