Softball Tryouts Soon to Begin

The Lady Wolves softball team is preparing for their upcoming season, starting with tryouts from Jan. 23-28 on the softball field.

“The girls have been working hard since school started,” Head Coach Donya Mooney said.

Though multiple girls tryout for softball every year, in the end there are a total of 12-14 players per team.

“People should (tryout) because it helps you keep your grades up and make lots of new friends,” sophomore Danielle Reyes said.

Along with additional players, the team will have to adjust to a new district as well.

“We are looking forward to the challenge and competitiveness,” Mooney said.

Through a variety of drills, the girls are evaluated on their ability to throw, catch, field and hit a ball.

“We are looking for players who will not only make a difference to our program but for our school,” Assistant Coach Michael Williams said.

Reyes said the team is friendly.

“I feel very welcomed by the girls and the coaches,” she said. “The softball team is my family.”

Reyes offers advice for those who plan on trying out.

“If you want to play softball, be a wing, not a weight, and always be prepared to work,” she said.

Mooney said she is ready for the season to start.

She said, “We hope to have a productive week of tryouts and get to our first scrimmage on Feb. 3.”
