Cool Air Offers Hope for Snow Day

Slowly creeping through the air, engulfing all the unnecessary Texas heat: yes, it is finally that time of year. The cold weather is here.

The biting cold started very early on. Even though autumn in Texas starts at the end of September, with the exception of some days here and there, it usually doesn’t get consistently cool until the end of November.

This year has been much different. As soon as autumn came it’s been fairly chilly. I wouldn’t be surprised to see snow taller than an inch this winter. We might be able to make snowballs out of actual snow without soil.

The early arrival has helped fuel the sale of scarves, hats and hoodies. Students are coming in with extra layers on and already dreaming of sleeping in on that possible delayed morning of school.

Coming from up North, it is always humorous to see native-born Texans bundling up in their puffy jackets at the hint of 60-degree weather. But that’s all right, all the immunity I thought I had built up seems to have dissipated also.

The way this weather is going we might just get that thin sheet of ice or couple inches of snow that will keep us home from at least one day of school. One can only hope.

So stock up on sweaters and Uggs, and get your Starbucks card ready. Hopefully, it’s going to be a frosty winter.
