Continuing its annual event, 2023’s Spotify Wrapped became available for anticipating users on Nov. 30, through a vertical video presentation, following the same format since its release in 2016.
“I look forward to my Wrapped because it reflects what emotions I went through during the year,” senior Vanessa Espinoza said. “I usually associate certain songs with a specific period of the year.”
Spotify collects listening data from the first day of January until late October to release a personalized summary for every user by late November.
“I wish Spotify would count my streams for the whole year,” Espinoza said. “But, I don’t mind since I can’t wait to see my year’s music overview.”
The three most awaited year-end statistics include total minutes listened, top songs and top artists based on personal accumulated stream counts.
“My listening total was 83,448 minutes, and my top song was ‘Kill Bill’ by SZA,” senior Nhi Truong said. “My top artist was NewJeans.”
New to Wrapped this year is a story that demonstrates a flipping digital card that reveals a listening character specific to listener’s tastes and habits.
“I got the Time Traveler card,” junior Via Nguyen said. “It said I listened to songs on repeat, which makes sense because I streamed my top song 729 times.”
Some users didn’t expect their Wrapped results.
“I got beabadoobee as my top artist, but I expected to get Laufey,” Nguyen said. “I’m not mad about it, but it shocked me.”
Many users are excited for 2024’s Spotify Wrapped.
“I can’t wait to see my results next year,” Truong said. “I feel like I’m going to get different top songs and artists than I did this year.”
