What’s the best way to spend $100 million? Apple seems to think it’s the perfect price for an album. Every iTunes user received a free U2 album already downloaded onto their devices. The album is titled “Songs of Innocence” and contains 11 songs plus a bonus track. The tracks are only free until Oct. 13.

The majority of people seem to find the free album dissatisfying. Many displayed their outrage via Twitter and demanded Apple to get rid of the album altogether. U2 hasn’t released a new album in five years. Having released their first album in 1980, “Songs of Innocence” is their 13th studio album. So why download a free album to users’ devices without their consent? U2, as well as, Apple seem to think it’s the perfect promotional technique. In some way, they did get what they wanted considering most people who received the album had no one idea who they were before.

All U2 was trying to do was spread the word about their new album, but as a result the public responded in pure rage. Luckily, Apple recently provided their users with a tool to delete the album off their devices. The company gave users a website with a button that reads “Remove Album”. Then, you sign in using your Apple account. Finally, you’ll receive a message confirming the album’s removal. After that is done, Apple users officially have nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, Apple managed to waste $100 million, which clearly could’ve gone to better use.
