School to Become SAT Testing Center

In an effort to assist the large amount of students who need to take the SAT in the Arlington area, the College Board approved Timberview to become an SAT Testing Center.

“It would have been a lot easier to have taken my SAT at Timberview than (the) University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) because of the distance and convenience,” junior Ravyn Casteel said.

The school is scheduled to host its first test on May 2.

“Principal (Derrell) Douglas sent me an email saying that College Board had selected us,” Data Specialist Renee Cox said. “I assume it’s because of proximity to large numbers of students who need to take a test, and they were running out of room.”

The close proximity will help students, Cox said.

“I’ve known students who have had to go North Fort Worth, Northern Grand Prairie, Irving and other districts,” she said. “I think having more testing centers locally is going to benefit all of our students.”

Staff members will also be able to benefit from the school becoming an SAT testing center.

“(We need) about 10-15 proctors on any given testing day,” said Cox. “There is an honorarium that College Board pays the proctors, supervisors and hall monitors.”

As of April 2, the registration for the first test is closed. The administration is still in need of proctors for the exam.

“You have to be a certified teacher,” Cox said. “I’m not sure how many have signed up for our first administration, (but) they know that they’re taken care of.”

Currently, the school administration has reserved the state standardized testing rooms as the SAT testing rooms.

“Right now, our plan is to use our rooms that are located in the 2000’s Hallway,” Cox said. “We have told the College Board that we can house up to 300 students to take the exam.”
