Varsity Volleyball Loses to Burleson

With a score of 3 to 1, the Varsity Volleyball Team lost against the Burleson Elks on Tuesday night.

“We played hard, but we just made way too many mistakes,” Coach Judith McGill said. “We made a lot of mistakes, then gave up the same amount of points.”

After splitting the first two sets, the girls didn’t come back to win.

“As a team, we started the game off slow with low energy and that set the tone for the first three sets,” junior Haley Wormsley said. “We fought really hard and refused to give up after the initial loss of the first set, but we couldn’t come back from it.”

McGill said the team played well despite the loss.

“The kids played hard,” she said. “It’s not for a lack of effort. It’s when you play a good team, like Burleson, that they take advantage of your mistakes and capitalize on them.

Senior Megan Davis said that the team isn’t thinking about playoffs yet.

“We focus on one game at a time,” she said. “If we look farther into the future, we get so overwhelmed with what we have to do to (make it to the playoffs).

The next game will be an away game against the Seguin Bobcats on Friday, at 5:30 pm.

“We’re going to keep our same philosophy (against Seguin),” McGill said. “Right now, we are focusing on (Seguin) and in securing a win.”
