With a score of 37-28, the Varsity Football team defeated the Midlothian Panthers Sept. 23, at R.L Anderson Stadium.

“It was a great team effort by everyone,” Coach Robert DeSanto said. “The offense made sure to keep us in the game while the defense had a battle of their own trying to stop Midlothian.”

After missing two games due to injury, junior Jalen Knox returned to play.

“It feels great to be back,” Knox said. “Before the game, I told myself I needed to leave my mark on the field. I did that and more with the three touchdowns and over 200 yards of offense.”

The team was ranked eighth in polls coming into the regular season.

“People really predicted us to finish last in the district and we just want to show them why we’re much better than that,” senior Avondre Bunch said. “We knew coming into this game we had an opportunity to prove that our team is talented enough to make plays happen on the field and change the outcomes of games.”

The next game is homecoming, this Friday at Newsome.

“This bi-week we’re trying to get back to the basics in preparation for the game against the Legacy Broncos,” DeSanto said. “With the grading period coming to an end, we need to make sure we have everyone eligible to play.”
