The Girls Varsity Basketball team ended their season with a close game, with a score of 69-58, againist L.D. Bell High School.

With a score of 69-58, the Girls Varsity Basketball team lost last Friday night against L.D. Bell High School, ending their playoff rounds as Bi-District Champions.

“Bell shot exceptionally well and we shot uncharacteristically poorly,” Head Coach Kit Martin said. “It’s survive and advance.”

Senior JaLea Bennett, who has signed to play at University of Arizona next year, agreed with her coach.

“(We) kind of underestimated them, and we were playing a little lazy,” she said.

The team shot more than L.D. Bell.

“When you take 25 more shots than your opponent, you are usually the victor,” Martin said. “I was very disappointed in our last game; I know the entire team is disappointed.”

Sophomore Allyson Hinds agrees with Bennett and Martin.

“I really think they were just having a good shooting night, and we weren’t,” Hinds said.

The seniors on the team had been to playoffs every year.

“We had the most talent in the district and we worked really hard,” senior Megan Badejo said.

The team included three underclassmen.

“Our younger players helped us out especially with being quicker on their feet and helping us when we got into foul trouble,” Badejo said.

Hinds said being on the team improved her work ethic.

“During freshman year, you’re basically playing the same people, but on Varsity you’re playing people that may be up to three years older than you,” she said.

Although there are nine seniors on the team who are graduating, Martin isn’t worried about the incoming players.

She said, “We have a really good young group coming up, and we will be turning our attention to building that group into another great team next year.”
