Boy’s Varsity Soccer Wins Against Mansfield

The Varsity Boy’s Soccer Team is hoping to bounce back from a low scoring season last school year.

“The mentality is different,” Coach JasonYoung said. “We’ve been working hard and doing some good things. The expectations are to keep it simple, play, do what we can and the rest will play out.”

The team has already accomplished a long-term goal of beating Mansfield for the first time in school history.

“If we put forth enough effort, we can win and be unbeatable,” senior Jake Jackola said.

Young said he is counting on the seniors to step up.

“That’s one of the goals that the seniors have (and) that’s how we’ve got to play the game,” he said.

Practice techniques have also changed.

“We have been focusing on the fundamentals,” Young said.

Senior Dylan White said it is a group effort.

“There (is) a definite improvement,” White said. “Last year we only cared about ourselves.”

Junior Andres Urias is hopeful the team will end with a better record than last year.

“I do believe (Young is) pushing harder,” Urias said. “He will push harder not only for the integrity of the team but his own as well.”

One player said the boys have put in more effort.

Jackola said, “We have better team chemistry and we’ve been working harder to achieve our goal of making playoffs.”
