After the UIL Academic team competed March 29, five students are advancing to Regional Competition in Lubbock on May 2-3.

“We had several advancements along with 1st or 2nd place teams,” UIL Academic Coordinator Stephanie Garrett said.

She said the meet went well.

“This year’s teams have done a great job and have been a marvelous group of coaches and students to work with,” Garrett said.

Students are now preparing for Regional Competition.

“I’m very excited,” junior Hien Nguyen said. “I’m doing some practice tests.”

Junior Alex Roman advanced in Prose Interpretation.

“I feel like I’m finally achieving goals that I set for myself,” she said. “I’m rehearsing every chance I get, and I’m trying to improve every aspect of my pieces.”

Garrett said she feels good about the trip.

“I am very excited about those who are traveling to Regionals,” she said. “I feel we have a very good chance of those same folks advancing to State.”
