Duet Acting Team Qualifies for State

Two students, senior Flordeluna Flores and sophomore Ilka Megee, have qualified in Duet Acting for The Texas Forensics Association (TFA) state competition March 6-8 in Houston.

“These students have worked hard to qualify,” Coach Victoria Williams said. “We are excited and nervous.”

Eighty-eight Duet Acting Teams will be competing.

“Getting to TFA in general is such a humbling experience,” Megee said.

Their piece is about a mentally ill mother seeing a psychiatrist.

“It’s really good to have a partner,” Flores said. “With individual pieces you can perform in a mirror or in front of others but it really can’t compare to that of having someone by you.”

The duo is the first on the team to make it to state level.

“It feels great to represent Timberview,” Williams said. “We are represented so well in all areas so it’s great to add theatre.”

Flores said she has spent countless hours practicing.

“It’s definitely been hard: sleep was just a luxury,” she said.

Working together as a team left an impact on Megee.

“This whole experience has made my sophomore year more memorable than that of most kids,” she said.

Flores said she hopes to learn something from the various performers they will compete against.

“I really only want a fun experience,” she said. “I hope at least someone will walk away from us and say ‘Wow.'”
