Making a Murderer Continues to Spark Interest

Chris Kyle

Over the past month, many people have been engrossed in the Netflix original, “Making a Murderer.” Paying for Netflix streaming services is worth it, especially for this 10-part documentary.

The series focuses on Steven Avery, who was wrongfully convicted for sexual assault. After serving 18 years, he was released when new DNA evidence was discovered, showing that it matched another man. In 2005, two years after his release, he was again accused and convicted of murdering a woman.

The series started with Avery’s homecoming. At first, the show was overwhelming with excessive information. I just couldn’t get hooked. However, after pushing on, the episode that caught my attention was “Plight of the Accused.” From there on, I was hooked and immediately watched the remaining episodes.

My favorite episode was “The Last Person to See Teresa Alive” because the evidence caught the attention of the prosecutors and jurors. It was the moment the pieces started coming together.

Avery is still incarcerated and is fighting for his freedom. He argues that the county police are steadily trying to convict him due to a lawsuit stemming from his previous wrongful incarceration.

With all the new attention focused on this case, Avery is hoping for a new trial. This documentary starts slow but will have you hooked within the first few episodes. There is already talk of continuing the series featuring a new case for season two.
