Places to Look at Lights

Tayia Anderson, Staff Writer

With the temperature dropping and the holidays drawing near, it is time to go out and look at lights. There are many places in the area that will keep you busy!

Prairie Lights
This is one of the best places to look at lights in the area. Prairie Lights is located in Grand Prairie and offers you a drive-through experience to see four million lights. The lights throughout the two-mile path tell a story and even feature local places around the DFW. My favorite part during the drive would have to be the tunnel where the lights turn on in sections and then go off. When you finally get to the end there is a “Holiday Village” where you can stop and see Santa, get holiday treats and there are even some fun activities for the kids.

Six Flags
Six Flags is known mostly for their rides and attractions, but until early January the park is filled with holiday cheer. They hang lights from each tree and even the rides. They also have a special area where all the trees are hung with lights and change colors while music is playing so each note or sound is timed with a color change. It’s a really cute place to just sit down and watch the lights with a loved one while drinking hot chocolate; there are even fire pits nearby so you won’t be too cold.

The Christmas Capital of Texas
Grapevine is known as the self-proclaimed Christmas Capital of Texas. They have over 1,400 events and activities for everyone in the family not just the little kids. You can start your day off on Main Street and continue from there. Along with the activities, there is shopping and dining to add to the fun.

Christmas in the Square
Located in Frisco, Christmas in the Square has over 175,000 choreographed lights and some awesome fake snow to create a winter wonderland. There are endless activities to enjoy each day from a parachuting Santa, snow tubing, carriage rides and much more.

Christmas in the Park
Located in Farmers Branch, Christmas in the Park is a drive-through animated display with over 500,000 lights with different themes and scenes from fantasy to patriotic. Santa will be making an appearance as well.
