In order to start off HOG Week, the first traditional messy pep rally was yesterday in the Varsity Gym.

“It was really successful because everyone walked out with a smile on their face and during the pep rally everyone seemed to be engaged,” junior Nelly Nyangaresi said.

The event included challenges like Human King Cake, Baby Gumbo, Animal toss, egg head, make sum Shake, which was a blended Happy Meal from McDonald’s.

“It’s a way of showing others you care,” Nyangaresi said. “I participate because it warms my heart to see others being helped and to be able to put a smile on their face.”

In the beginning of the event, the seniors were ahead.

“HOG Week is about gathering as a school to help out people who are in need and a way for us to have fun as we raise money for a cause,” senior Nyia Draper said. “I participate because I love helping others and being a part of something.”

At the end, seniors were still in the lead with 39 points and juniors in second place.

“The enthusiasm students had for their team and the people who participated in the games were extremely messy and grossed out, which was cool,” Draper said.

Nyangaresi said she is excited for the next pep rally, which will be tomorrow during fourth period in the Varsity Gym.

“I hope the next one is successful as well and that we are able to still have fun while fundraising,” Nyangaresi said.
