The Varsity Girls’ Volleyball Team placed fourth in the consolation bracket at the Granbury Classic Chevrolet Tournament Aug. 17-19.

“We are like one big family,” junior Rainee Bowers said. “Everybody works hard and fights together.”

After three days of play, they finished with a tournament record of one victory and five defeats.

“We learned a lot over the course of the weekend,” Head Coach Beth Wills said. “Preseason is about finding out the flaws in the plays and correcting it. The goal is to get better after the game is over.”

The girls stayed overnight at a local hotel so they could participate in the tournament.

“I had an amazing time on the trip,” Bowers said. “It was great to get a chance to play against different levels of competition and bond as a team throughout the whole experience.”

Last season the team finished with a regular season record of 2-13.

“We have a lot of great competition in this district,” Wills said. “Every school we face has a couple of great athletes playing for them. We will have to battle through to win, but that’s what competition is all about.”

New coach Jonathan Newton stepped down from the head coaching position at Ennis to accept the open assistant coach position here.

“Everybody has been so welcoming to me coming to Timberview,” he said. “These girls are very eager to learn and have a thirst for success.”

The team’s first regular season game will be away, against crosstown rivals Lake Ridge.

“We have two and a half more weeks to get better for the upcoming season,” Wills said. “The goal is to do better than last year and make it to playoffs.”
