Newline Interactive Displays were installed in classrooms, the last week of the fourth six weeks. Projectors and screens are being removed.
“I don’t think that there is ever a good time to transition to new technology equipment, but the good thing about it is that teachers are now able to connect their laptops to the interactive board,” Assistant Principal Wendell Joubert said.
MISD installed the boards to provide the teachers and students with a more interactive learning experience.
“I’ve always wanted a board that I can touch and have students go up to,” teacher Caroline Soliman said. “It’s definitely a change we all have to get used to.”
The new board allows multiple students the opportunity to interact with the board at one time.
“It provides our students with more interactive learning tools to complete assignments,”Joubert said. “We challenged the teachers to teach more in the Power Zone with the new interactive board.”
Teachers received training on how to use the interactive board.
“The boards are good but a lot of my teachers have problems with it,” junior Travis Serias said. “I saw teachers struggle with it, so I tried to help. In my Psychology class, it always lags because of the internet.”
District bond money was used to purchase the boards.
“It’s easier to use than the projector,” Soliman said. “It also benefits my students to be more engaged (being able to use the board).”
Students like Serias have also helped teachers learn to use the boards as they are setup as tablets.
“The boards are different to get used to but they are here to help us learn,” Serias said.
“My AP English teacher uses it to annotate for our essay and in AP History we use it for slides.”
Serias said that teachers are adapting to the new technology.
“Most of my teachers are getting more used to the board,” Serias said. “I don’t have to help as much. The struggles that I saw are improving over time.”
Soliman said that teachers need to keep up with the latest technology.
She said, “It will help us because we have to move on with technology as things change.”
