T-view Con Saturday

In an attempt to bring students together, T-view Con will take place in the library this Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It will cater to multiple interests both in the world of anime and video games.

“It is a day of gaming that is based off of manga and anime, honoring that both are actually

higher-level thinking,” Librarian Jennifer Rike said. “They require visual and text literacy”

This event was originally created by a group of students two years ago, but the first convention was held last spring.

“We still have a group of students who wanted to see it happen, so it happened,” Rike said. “It all started with trying to help someone with writing their own graphic novel.”

The event is filled with different activities that students can participate in.

“We have Smash Brothers, vintage gaming, board games, crafts, a reading area and trivia,” she said. “This year we are going to try and build more students involvement. We have asked theatre to participate and included students trying to sell their own art. We want it to be more student driven.”

The reception last year was smaller in numbers and marked the start of a new tradition.

“T-view Con is about our students and their passions and anytime we can do something that engages someone in their passion they are going to do better in school and it’s a win-win for everybody,” Rike said. “Manga requires higher level thinking and who wouldn’t want to support that?”
