PTSA Hosts First Book Drive
September 19, 2018
To give back to the community, PTSA is hosting their first Book Drive through Sept. 27.
“The PTSA president was at Della Icenhower Intermediate School and noticed that they were doing a book drive to stock up and collect books,” Librarian Jennifer Rike said. “She thought our school could help with that, so that’s how (the book drive) began.”
The school is not the only one participating in the drive.
“I reached out to our feeder schools to let them know about it,” Parent Liaison Jennifer Waller said. “We’re open to receiving books from anyone.”
The books are required to be in a decent condition when turned in.
“It does not have to be a brand-new book or one that has never been opened,” Rike said. “Just gently used ones so people can be happy to read it.”
The items will be distributed around the district.
“(The books) are going to our feeder school libraries (as well as) to our SPED Department,” Waller said. “(The SPED Department) does not have many resources that are age appropriate or for their group, so (the book drive) will help broaden their choices.”
To donate, bring unwanted books in good condition to the library.
“Once (we) turn the books in, we do not see how it benefits (the kids),” Rike said. “We just have to know in our heart and brain when we do something good, it pays off down the road.”
