In an effort to earn money for HOG Week, the African Student Association (TASA) is hosting its annual Poetry Night tonight at 7 p.m., in the PAC.

“(It) is a fundraising event where students perform (spoken word) poems either written by themselves or (by) other (poets),” TASA sponsor Nicole Collins said.

This is the first Poetry Night hosted during HOG Week.

“It seems like people are really excited about it,” Collins said. “Though I never really know until it’s over.”

Presale tickets are $5 and $10 at the door.

“We’ve already sold over 100,” Collins said.

For the first time, sophomore Sophia Moses will be performing her own poem.

“I’m a little nervous,” Moses said. “I don’t want to mess up.”

A mystery guest poet will perform as well.

“I’m really excited to hear the guest poets,” sophomore Temitoro Edun said. “Each of them is always really interesting. They inspire me to be a better poet.”

The students have been preparing since January.

“It’s a good way to connect with the school and share our feelings,” Edun said. “It’s a great way to have a good time.”
