First Messy Pep Rally Puts Seniors Ahead
March 9, 2016
In order to start off HOG Week, the first traditional messy pep rally was held yesterday in the Varsity Gym.
“The crowd was full of energy and that’s when I felt like the pep rally was successful,” senior Mindy Nguyen said. “All our sweat and tears went into a 45 minute pep rally, but it’s all worth it in the end.”
The event, raised $1,163, included challenges like Tic Tac Toe, Create A Clown, Egg Juggle, Circus Surprise, which was blended cherries, animal crackers and Coke, and the Potatoes and Cheese Sack Race.
“I only had to answer questions and the egg toss,” junior Precious Ajayi said. “The (egg) toss was probably the hardest for me because I can’t catch to save my life.”
In the beginning of the performance, the teachers group had zero points.
“I love being a part of something that supports people in need because it’s in my religion,” teacher Alison Thornton said. “We’re called to help and serve people and that is the whole purpose of HOG Week. Being able to participate in that make me feel good.”
Thornton said she thinks the teachers have a chance to be the champions.
“We’re winning most of the competitions so we can totally take everybody,” she said.
Senior Victoria Hollie said she didn’t like the teachers competing in the event.
“It was funny but I feel like they should leave it up to the classes to battle hence the name Battle Of The Classes,” she said. “But then again the more money the better to help save a life.”
Her challenges for BOTC were easy, Ajayi said.
“It was really worth participating though because I know that it is all in the spirit of HOG Week,” she said. “I don’t mind letting a raw egg crack on my face if it means I get to help someone who needs it.”
At the end, seniors were in the lead with 29 points with teachers seven points behind.
“I think seniors will win because it happens every year,” Hollie said. “This is our last year of fun so winning just comes with our class.”
