Making Mum Preferred Rather Than Buying
October 14, 2015
When it comes to price of Homecoming mums, some believe it is cheaper to buy one instead of making your own, but what is the real difference between buying and creating a mum for the traditional day?
It all depends on what class you are in. There’s a considerable difference between a lower classmen and upper classmen mum because a senior will have more things to put on the mum because it’s their final chance to go out with a bang, and have the best mum. Of course, this follows the idea that bigger is better.
I feel it’s better if you make your own mum because you know what you want. There have been many cases where my friends will pay someone to create their mum and it won’t meet their expectations. If you’re going to spend a lot of money on a mum, spend it on something that you know is going to be done the way you want. The reason making mums are special is because they’re used as a remembrance to your Homecoming from that year. If you pay someone else to make it, it’s not as meaningful as if you were to make it on your own.
It doesn’t matter if you buy your mum or create it because you’re going to spend in the range of $60-$300. Usually if you purchase a pre-made mum, even the basics are pricey. So the more extravagant you want it, the more it’ll cost you. However, there are ways to get materials for less money if you are planning on making your own.
Don’t shop in the Homecoming aisle. The holiday section has the same things that could be put on a mum. Try to remember quality not quantity, at least when purchasing ribbon. People think that buying tons of ribbon makes the mum look bigger but that’s not true. It depends on how you use the ribbon to make the mum look massive and full. Besides spools of ribbon cost about $4 each, this technique can help you to choose the significant amount of accessories for your mum.
Coupons are your best friends. If you buy materials last minute, return to Michael’s five times a day to use their various savings coupons. You might not get the best supplies out there but you’re saving money. Also, JoAnn’s always has coupons available on their website.
Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you invest or piece it together because you will spend around the same amount of cash either way.
