Senior Donates Benches to Commons for Eagle Scout Project
After designing two sets of benches with his Eagle Scout Troop, senior Daren White donated the benches to the school.
“I felt like the school gave me so much, (so) I wanted to give back to my community, and leave a legacy that I and my family could be proud of,” White said.
It took White 10 days to make the benches.
“I had help from my family, teammates and my troop,” he said.
They are located in the Commons.
“I just saw students sitting on them today during passing period,” Assistant Principal Le’Ann Downs said. “I was so excited when I saw students using them.”
Creating benches is a common project, White said.
“I originally wanted to do something for my organizations (football and baseball) but it was hard to set-up a line of communication,” he said.
Blair said the benches are a nice addition.
“Instead of (sitting) on the stairs of the Commons to wait for my friends, I can sit on the nice benches and not get a leg cramp,” she said.
Downs said it’s wonderful when students, like White, give back to the school.
“I am always in support of students who want to show acts of kindness toward our campus as it is a great display of school spirit and leadership,” she said.
White said his hard work paid off.
He said, “Finishing was probably the greatest accomplishment in my life thus far.”
