In an effort to help students get better scores on the STAAR test, English teacher Danielle Panzarella will offer EOC tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week.

“Tutorials are a very useful tool for anyone who is struggling.” Panzarella said. “It is the best place to get one on one help from your teachers and it is always worth it to go, even when the EOC is over.”

Freshman London Scott has found tutoring very beneficial to her.

“The [tutorials] are helpful to me because they help me better understand things rather than what we just learn in class” Scott said.

Since attending tutorials, freshman Mikayla Roberts said she feels more relaxed about taking the STAAR test.

“Because I have more information, it makes me feel more comfortable.” she said.

Writing seems to be the most difficult task for the freshman to do, Panzarella said.

“Generally, students need the most help with their short answers and essays.” She said. “The areas that are hardest for everyone are embedded evidence, deeper level analysis of textual evidence, and crafting detailed examples to support a thesis in an expository essay.”

Scott goes to tutoring to better the chances of her making a good score on the STAAR test.

“I attend EOC tutorials to make sure I make a high grade on the test.” Scott said.

With this year being the second time the English STAAR has merged together as one, is no telling what the scores will be.

“I guess we will see when the scores come back in June!” Panzarella said. “We don’t have much data to go off in terms of noticing an improvement in scores.”
